The program begins June 1 and will run through July 14 (or July 15 if you're using the app!). Simply read 2 hours per week and log your time! Participants in the kids age group will receive weekly prizes (coupons to local businesses) and participants in the teen and adult age groups will be entered into weekly prize drawings! EPLD Shell-terDive into Reading and adopt a shell from the EPLD Shell-ter!
When you stop by the library to check out some books, let the staff at the adult circulation desk know that you'd like to adopt a shell. Then pick out your shell, give it a name, and receive an official adoption certificate! You can take your shell home and read to them as much as possible. Why adopt a shell? They require no maintenance, are good listeners, encourage reading, and they're so cute! Adoptions start Monday, June 19 @ 9:00 AM! Free. One shell per patron. While supplies last. Want to be a 2023

Is there a deadline to register?Sort of. Registration will be open from May 15 all the way through the end of the program in July. However, teen and adult patrons wanting to be eligible for the Grand Prize Drawings must register and log their 2 hours before the end of the first week of the program. (If registering using the READsquared app, you have until 11;59 PM on Saturday, June 10. If filling out an offline registration form at the library, you have until 5:00 PM on Friday, June 9.) Can I log all of my family's time at once?Sure! In the READsquared app it is super easy to log time for everyone all at once. And this year our paper reading log can be used for everyone in the household. Do all age groups need to read 2 hours per week?
Yep! Although all of this is on the honor system, we highly encourage patrons of all ages to hit the 2 hour mark each week. That's just 20 minutes per day for 6 days out of the week! Am I required to use the READsquared app?Nope! You can sign up to log your reading on a computer. Or you can register with our offline registration form and use a paper reading log. All participants will be added to our library's READsquared database. This way we can easily pull up the statistics for how many hours are read each week. It also helps us with tracking prizes - especially the teen and adult weekly giveaways! |
When can I log my reading time?If you're using the READsquared app, you can log your reading as you go each day, or you can log your 2 hours all at once if you prefer. If you're using a paper reading log, you'll sign it once you've met 2 hours for the week.
You'll log for Week 1 only during Week 1, log for Week 2 only during Week 2, etc. If you're using the paper reading log, just be sure to have your sheet initialed by EPLD staff before we close at 6:00 PM on Friday of each week! If you're using the app, you have until 11:59 PM on Saturdays. We made the handy-dandy chart below to help keep track!
