Book ClubBook Club meets the first Thursday of every month! Book Club is has a participant limit of 12, and is currently full. Please fill out the contact form if you would like to be considered when a spot opens up. Mystery Book ClubJoin us for Mystery Book Club the second Monday of every month! The theme for May is "Revisiting the Classics." In addition to classic authors such as Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, participants will discuss favorite books and authors which may be considered classics in the future. Outdoor Pavilion Writer's CircleHave you thought about becoming an author, would like to write down your family’s stories, or simply love to express yourself through writing? Join this informal writer’s group to share your ideas and writings. Members offer positive support, feedback when requested, and incentive to keep writing. Maple Lawn: Celebrating 100 YearsThe theme for this celebratory presentation will be "building on strengths of the past as a bridge to the future". Frank Kandel, chairman of Maple Lawn's centennial committee, will focus on the history of Maple Lawn. Mary Hutson, former assistant in the activity department, will talk about the importance of socialization and family involvement. Lou Strong, committee member, will give a resident's perspective. To wrap up, the presenters will share details and an invitation to Maple Lawn's centennial events on July 22 & 23. Tuesday, May 17 | 6:00 PM Free program. Registration required! Program Room Seed Saving for GardenersMost gardeners wait until the fall to decided they want to save seeds. This results in lower quality seeds for next year. By planning your garden for seed saving, you can get high quality seeds for the future! You will learn important concepts and techniques for seed saving such as open pollination and variety isolation to get the best quality seeds for your garden! Suffrage Saturday Virtual Film Fest
In August, Eureka Public Library hosted its first Virtual Film Fest! Every week we posted a link to a film about the Women's Suffrage movement, as well as a short review by one of our staff members. The movies were all free to view with a Eureka Public Library card. We encouraged patrons to watch the film, read the review, and let us know their thoughts!

Pumpkins, Parades & Pies: Eureka's Pumpkin Festival Past
Take a step back in time and view a visual history of the Eureka Pumpkin Festival! The festival, which was held between 1939 and 1961, regularly averaged at least 50,000 attendees from all over Illinois and the Midwest. In 1947 film star and Eureka College alumnus Ronald Reagan and Illinois Governor Dwight Green attended, drawing national attention. |
